ADHD and the Concept of the Octopus

Updated: Jul 14, 2023

I want to share a concept that might help you see your active ADHD mind as a superpower in a new way, and offer the idea that you, a highly intelligent, sentient, multi-functional creature, are a lot like another creature of the same description: our friend the Octopus.

I am starting ADHD Alive with this blog post because Octopus are very important to me. I feel deeply connected to all sea creatures; whether that is from my Piscean nature, how much they fascinate me, or perhaps the astonishing intelligence and complexity of Cephalopods. Or, it could just be from My Octopus Teacher (a very emotionally complex documentary on Netflix).

Either way, I deeply connect with the Octopus, and I describe my ADHD as if I am one: a highly intelligent creature who is unique because of their multiple arms and ability to operate multiple things at once – feeling, sensing and balancing all of it at the same time, feeding information back to the highly intelligent being in the center, who is processing the multi-variant nature of the things we like to do as creatures with ADHD.

I am honored and humbled to associate with an Octopus. I would love to meet you and learn what you think, and if this resonates with you. You could also message me on one of the socials and tell me what you think. I’d like to learn from you.

I hope you find your space to feel alive today.

Erin the Octopus
